Tennis for Race Against Dementia

An exciting new programme is being made available locally, in September. Darren Burgess, who is leading the programme, has been in contact to let us know about the opportunity:

“The Tennis4RAD initiative aims to create opportunities to help get people more active through fun, interactive weekly tennis fitness sessions at the Gleneagles arena (thanks to Gleneagles’ generous support).  These will start on 1 September.  There will be two weekly sessions each Wednesday: at 1.30pm and 2.30pm.  Tennis Scotland are providing coaches and all the required equipment.  All participants’ proceeds from the Gleneagles sessions will go directly to Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity.

One of the main inspirations for the tennis fitness sessions is the research by the Alzheimer’s Society and others that regular exercise, especially tennis, can reduce the risk of developing dementia by around 30%, and at the same time improve the mental health and physical well-being of people who may have become isolated during the COVID-19 lockdowns.”
